Why is it that machines like carbon monoxide detectors only start beeping to tell you they need new batteries in the middle of the night? And how exactly do they determine that this is the first really fussy night you’ve had with your 9 day old baby and that she’s finally calmed down?

  1. aw, man – that sucks!

  2. Because, as my dad likes to say, electrical devices are one of the seven heads of the demon mentioned in the book of revelations as a sign that the end of the world is near. They are all possessed by the dark lord, Satan. (I’m not making that up,my dad is nuts.)

    But seriously, how crappy!

  3. OMG, that happened to us too. It was 3 am, Noah was about 4 weeks old, and had barely slept all day.

It took us at least half an hour to figure out that it wasn’t either damn smoke detector but the @(#&$( (&W(%&@#$(%& carbon monoxide detector, and another 10 minutes to get it open and replace its battery.

  4. AW … Murphy’s Law…

  5. Oh not good!

  6. Same thing happened here too! Except it was during a daytime nap and we couldn’t get the darned things to stop beeping! We had to disassemble all of them until we found the dead one! Ahhh why does safety have to come at a price!? LoL!

  7. Congratulations on baby and so sorry about the CO detector beeping at the wrong time. Hang in there. I’m so happy for you both! I have been so remiss checking up on everybody. Always good to get to a blog with great news (despite alarms sounding).

  8. We don’t have carbon monoxide dectors in Australia I don’t think… but we do have smoke dectectors and they go off at 3 am after your child has been awake puking for hours on end and finally fallen into a deep healing sleep.

    They are trifards!
